Glossary

Antoine, baron de Roquelaure

1560-1625

Antoine, baron de Roquelaure came from a old French family from Armagnac

He was a companion of Henri de Navarre from a very early age, and remained close to him when he became king of France. He was a Catholic, and was one of those who urged Henri IV to embrace Catholicism in 1593. Later, Henri IV entrusted him with overseeing the work at Fontainebleau. He was seated next to Henri IV in his carriage on the day Henri was assassinated.
