Henri IV - An unfinished reign

Founding a dynasty

A legitimate ruler by blood, Henri IV was now Catholic, anointed and master of Paris. And to top it all off, the papal absolution drawn up by Clément VIII arrived on 30 August 1595: Henri was now definitively within the bosom of the Catholic Church. He could now devote himself to his great work: peace, reconciliation and reconstruction. But Henri was also the first ruler from the House of Bourbon, and he was eager to found a dynasty. To do so, he needed a legitimate son and heir.
